Vrana is the largest natural lake in Croatia. The lake is shallow, depth of up 5 m, and the water in it is slightly brackish due to the influx of sea water to underground sources. The surface of the lake is 30.02 km2. This is a wetland area that is, due to the impact of human activities, today among the most endangered on earth.

Vrana Lake is included on the European lisz of important ornithological areas (Important Bird Areas in Europe-IBA), and meets all the criteria of entering the world’s list of internationally wetlands in the framework of the International Convention for the protection of wetlands,i.e. the ramsar Convention.
